Do not get fooled by the Dog Days of Summer, business wise they tend to be slow, unless of course you are in the tourist industry.  But these days quickly transform into busy shopping days, so don’t be caught off guard and short merchandise. Make sure you have all of your packaging supplies for the busy fall season, such as: Plastic and Paper Bags, Gift Boxes, Tissue Paper, Gift Bags, Labels and Tags.

So just where does the name “Dog Days of Summer” come from?  Can it be from a tired and hot dog panting away on a hot summer day?  That fits the description but it’s not the right answer. 

The Greeks used the term “Dog Days”, as Sirius (the Dog Star) was the brightest star in the night sky.  The Romans also referred to the “Dog Days” as Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (Large Dog).

So a panting dog certainly symbolizes for us a hot day in August as the meaning has drifted away from stars.  But remember those slow hot days will become bustling days soon, so be prepared and be well stocked.
